If our team has determined that you could benefit from hearing aids, your next step will be to come in for a hearing aid dispensing and fitting appointment. During this appointment, we will adjust your hearing aid settings to your specific needs, help you understand how to clean and maintain the device, and answer any questions you may have.

Adjusting to new hearing aids may require a bit of a learning curve, but our East Tennessee Audiology team is ready to help you through the process.

    Hearing Aid Fitting

Your hearing aid fitting appointment will take place within a few weeks of your initial diagnostic evaluation. When you come in for your fitting, we’ll have your new hearing aids ready for you, but we’ll need to make a few adjustments to their sound settings to suit your specific hearing needs.

    Live Speech Mapping

We use real ear measurements to customize your hearing aids to your unique hearing impairment. Live speech mapping is a technique we use to hear exactly what you hear in real time, helping us make the perfect adjustments to optimize your sound quality.

During the live speech mapping process, we will place a small microphone in your ear that amplifies the sounds your ear picks up. After carefully reviewing your mapping measurements, we will adjust your hearing aid settings to ensure that they provide the best fit and sound quality for your ears.

Our goal is to make your hearing aids as comfortable as possible while creating the most clarity for your everyday sounds. We value your input throughout the fitting process, and if you need a re-adjustment after a few days or weeks, we’ll be happy to conduct the live speech mapping process again.

Adjusting to Your New Hearing Aids

Once we finish adjusting your sound settings, we’ll teach you how to insert your hearing aids, charge them, and clean them.

Adjusting to life with hearing aids may feel a bit overwhelming at first—your brain has gotten used to your hearing impairment, and it will take time to adjust to the new ways your ears process sounds. Maintaining a positive attitude and an open mind is the best way to make the adjustment process as smooth as possible.
